29/02/16 - Production Schedule

Today we chose a script for our team to work with, somehow we ended up with mine. Then we decided on who to do the 3 major roles in the production and went off on our own to give the production schedule a shot.
It was then that I realized that I am bad at planning who to do what in a team.

29/02/16 - Final Script

Script Idea - The Woman in the Mirror
By Taylor Jones

Version 2 (Final)

INT: DARK APARTMENT. LIGHTS ARE OFF, ROOM IS MESSY. SMALL AMOUNT OF LIGHT COMING THROUGH CURTAINS TO SLIGHTLY LIGHT THE ROOM.

DOOR CLICKS UNLOCKED AND A FIGURE SHUFFLES INTO THE ROOM HOLDING SOME PLASTIC BAGS. HE FLICKS ON A DIM CEILING LIGHT THAT ILLUMINATES THE ROOM.

MAN: Honey, I'm home!

MAN PROCEEDS TO TAKE OFF JACKET AND BAGS AND PUT THEM DOWN. HE GRABS A COUPLE OF BOWLS AND UTENSILS FROM THE KITCHEN AND MAKES HIS WAY OVER TO A TABLE WITH A MIRROR SITTING ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE. THERE IS A LAMP ON THE SIDE OF THE TABLE AND HE TURNS IT ON, WHICH WARMLY LIGHTS THE DINING AREA.
THE MAN BEGINS POURING THE TAKE AWAY FOOD ONTO THE PLATES AND PLACES ONE IN FRONT OF THE MIRROR CAREFULLY, AND ONE IN FRONT OF HIS OWN SEAT AND HE FLOPS INTO THE CHAIR.

MAN: There you go, your favourite! What a day. You wouldn't believe what happened today.

MAN STARTS DIGGING INTO HIS FOOD, WOMAN IN MIRROR SMILES AND STARTS EATING IN THE REFLECTION, REAL FOOD IN FRONT OF HER DOESN'T MOVE.

MAN: This mad woman on the street had a box full of kittens and she was trying to make me buy them! She kept pulling out kitten after kitten, trying to make me choose one. I tried to tell her politely that I had a wife and that she's allergic to cats... but I think she was crazy, she wasn't listening to I just had to walk off.

WOMAN IN THE MIRROR STOPS EATING AND GIGGLES, SMILES AT HIM LOVINGLY.

MAN: *sigh* ...I missed you today...

HE SMILES AT HER SADLY. SHE SHARES THE SAME EXPRESSION.

THE ROOM STARTS SHAKING AND RUMBLING AND THINGS START TO FALL OVER.
THE WOMAN'S EYES WIDEN AS SHE STARES AT THE MAN. THE MAN REALIZES THERE'S AN EARTHQUAKE AND BEGINS TO REACH OUT TO THE WOMAN IN THE MIRROR AS IT TIPS OVER AND FALLS.

MAN: No nonono... NOOO!!!

THE MIRROR SMASHES ON THE GROUND AND THE MAN IS DEVASTATED.
HE RUSHES OVER TO THE RUINS AND NOTICES A SMALL PIECE OF PAPER UNDER THE SMASHED GLASS. HE PICKS IT UP AND IT IS A PHOTO OF THEM WITH A MESSAGE ON THE BACK.

THE MAN SMILES.

Notes:

I didn't change or add much to my script because I think the length is fine as it is, any more and it might be too long. I also didn't want to over complicate the story either since we only have 30-40 seconds to establish a scene with something dramatic that happens and ends with some sort of resolution.

3D features would be the mirror, the woman in the mirror as the mirror needs to fall over and smash on the ground. A slow motion shot would look good while the mirror is falling with the man reaching out to the woman and she is also reaching out, maybe incorporate some 2D elements of a faint arm coming out of the mirror like shes almost coming out of it.

The 3D woman shouldn't look too realistic, maybe like a memory of what she looked like, since memories aren't exactly photo realistic, they tend to be blurry and out of focus.

Tutor Feedback

Feedback:

What is the real relationship between the man and the woman?
Why can't the man let her go? He's trying to hold on.
Character profiles?
What is the theme or message of the film?
How to end it?

The man and the woman were married, but he is now a widow. The couple was together for a long time, they went to school together and they shared many great memories. They were very close, the death of the wife brought great misery upon the husband as he has been struggling to let go. He tried to bring her back into his life so he isn't lonely anymore.

Man/Husband: Sad, miserable living without wife. Has let himself go a little, his apartment is a mess.

Woman: She brought the light to his life, she is very cheerful, always sees the bright side of things.

2016 - Year 2 of Bachelor! Animation Short Ideas and thoughts

We have been split up into groups and need to create a 30-40 second animation.
Some points to consider and remember:
-Animation should end with some sort of resolution
-What is the reason the character is animated
-Relationship between the two characters
-What is the story about?
-What is happening to them, why is this happening?
-Dramatic genre mashup

My ideas so far:
-A man in love with an animated woman in a mirror
-A person finds a magical object
-An animated dog at a pet store has special abilities
-A person is given a special pair of glasses that can see things others can't.

Elaborating on the ideas:

Man in love with woman in mirror

  • Man sits down in front of the mirror every meal time and pretends to eat with the woman, there could be an earth quake that makes the mirror topple over and smash on the ground.
  • Possible plot twist, maybe only he was able to see this woman, the mirror could have just been a normal mirror and he imagined this woman there. He might have been in love with himself, or he was lonely, or he had issues.
  • Woman could be mother or wife that passed away, the man misses her so much he sees her in this mirror.
  • Mirror could be an old mirror this woman used to own, and it's covered in bits of jewelry, or some photos. Maybe the mirror is un-decorated and when it smashes on the ground he discovers a hidden letter addressed to himself or a photo of them both together when they were happy.
  • Environment/house could be really dull and dark, how he feels about his life before he joins himself/the "woman" in the mirror, he turns on a lamp and everything is warm. He feels miserable having a life without this woman.
